??WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THE SITUATION IN LAGOS ???
You may have asked yourself this question over the past couple of days. You don’t have to be a politician or celebrity to make an impact in the lives of those affected. And you don’t have to go on Facebook or Instagram to make a show..you can do your bit by showing mercy to the vulnerable.
Turning away and ignoring the strife and suffering of the weak at this critical moment is not the best thing a believer should do. The least that can be done is to make dua to ALLAAH to guide the leaders and rectify the Nigerian citizenry.
Beyond Dua, ALLAAH has emphasized the importance of feeding the poor and needy especially during a difficult time like this. This is particular emphasized before one can claim to be a true believer as evident in the Quran. He (SWT) says in Q90:11-17:
11. But he has made no effort to pass on the difficult path.
12. And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?
13. It is the freeing of a slave
14. Or feeding on a day of severe hunger
15. An orphan of near relationship
16. Or a needy person in misery
17. Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion.
18. They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise)
From the above, we can see the seeming equivalence between freeing a slave and feeding the poor on a day of severe misery and hunger. There is no doubt that the vulnerable ones in our dear country, ?? are currently going through a very hard time.
Making a token contribution is our little way of easing their difficulty, just like the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) promised:
Whoever alleviates the difficulties of a needy person, Allah will alleviate his difficulties in this world and in the Hereafter..-[Sahih Muslim]
We ask ALLAAH to ease our difficulties as we contribute generously to this cause. Just $70 is enough to fix a family for a couple of weeks before they find their feet again.
Lastly, we remind ourselves of the regrets of the unfortunate ones on the day of Qiyaamah. After resenting their negligence of establishing the prayer, they wished they were from those people who hastened to feed the poor.
ALLAAH says (what means) in Q74:42-44:
42. “What has caused you to enter Hell?”
43. They will say: “We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers)
44. Nor did we used to feed the poor.
May ALLAAH not make this our regret on the day of Qiyaamah. May we be amongst the high flyers with a lot of good deeds and charity done ONLY for the sake of ALLAAH.
We implore us to donate generously to this cause as our own little way of helping the deprived and vulnerable in our dear country Nigeria. We ask ALLAAH to bring peace and stability back to the country. We ask him to rectify the affairs of our leaders. We ask him to guide the populace and soften their hearts towards goodness. Indeed He is able to do that.
